According to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, India is the "right country" at the "right time" to host the G20 chair because of its diversity and amazing successes.
The relationship between the UK and India will define the future of the two countries even more than it is defining the present, according to Sunak, the first prime minister of Britain of Indian ancestry, in an exclusive interview with PTI just days before the G20 meeting here on September 9-10.
India is the ideal nation to hold the G20 Presidency at the ideal time because of its size, diversity, and outstanding successes. I commend Prime Minister Modi's leadership over the past year, and it's fantastic to see India exhibiting such global leadership," he remarked.
Emails were used by the prime minister to reply to PTI's inquiries.
Through India's G20 Presidency, "we will also work closely with them to address the biggest challenges facing the world, from dealing with climate change to stabilising the global economy," Sunak said.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine was also brought up by the British prime minister, who claimed that the world would suffer "terrible consequences" if Russian President Vladimir Putin was permitted to invade a sovereign neighbour at will.
"Our people define and propel us as two of the world's great democracies. Because of this, the UK is concentrating on helping Ukraine defend itself and stop this illegitimate and unwarranted Russian invasion, he said.
The right of Ukraine to choose its own path is guaranteed by its freedom and democracy. There will be disastrous repercussions for the entire globe if Putin is permitted to invade a sovereign neighbour with impunity, he warned. Nobody desires peace more than Ukrainians, but Putin has the ability to put an end to the conflict by pulling out his soldiers as soon as possible, Sunak said.
